Although it is not required that you have all items for your initial consultation, the lawyer/paralegal will be able to assist you better with everything on hand. If you are intending to file quickly, due to an impending foreclosure, garnishment, judgment, etc., please have all materials available for the first meeting.
Items to Bring for the Initial Consultation:
- Driver's License or Photo ID card (State Issued), Social Security card
- Copy of all bills or a credit report along with the date each debt was incurred
- 6 months of paystubs (or letter from employer (showing gross income, net income, and all deductions),
or other document showing income, i.e. disability, Social Security, etc.)
- Last Federal & State tax return filed
- Any court documents (Garnishment Summons, Judgments or a Warrant in Debt)
- Cash value on Life Insurance or Retirement
- Vehicle registration, monthly statement, proof of insurance (if currently paying for a vehicle)
- Real estate: Tax Appraisal from the City/County, payoff statement on mortgage.
Base Fees:
- Chapter 7 - Single: $1,225 Chapter 7 - Married: $1,375 (additional fees may be added at time
of consultation)
- Chapter 13 - $540 to file (additional fees may be added at time of consultation)
- Credit report pulled through our agency: $40
It is only $100 to retain an attorney at this law firm. Although we cannot file until all of your fees have been paid, you are able to refer any creditor calls after the initial $100 has been paid. You are then given 4 months to pay off the remaining balance of your bankruptcy. If you know you are going to eventually file, you might want to consider bringing the $100 retainer fee to get things started on your case.
